The hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinic is the largest institution dedicated to health care professionals training in the Baltic countries. As of 2022, more than 20% of our community are international students.
Department of Gastroenterology is equipped with modern endoscopic, ultrasound and functional diagnostic equipment according to the latest international standards. Department of Gastroenterology is affiliated with the Institute of Digestive Diseases and focuses on translational research in the field of GI diseases. The main research focus of the department is related to chronic inflammation, precancerous conditions and cancer including H.pylori, atrophic gastritis, premalignant gastric lesions and gastric cancer.
Translational research covers various molecular biomarkers of premalignant and malignant gastrointestinal diseases (microbiome, WES, microRNAs, ln-RNA, cfDNA, organoids, etc.). UHS belongs to Hp-EuReg and is one of its most active members. UHS is also a member of the gastric cancer genetics consortium and a member of the 1000 Helicobacter genomes consortium. Researchers working at UHS have been involved in the development of H. pylori management guideline development groups.
